CAPE ALAVA AND TO TO THE UNKNOWN....

Well I returned last evening from an excursion out to the pacific ocean with some friends. JR, Brad, Bill, Maggie, and Zach all accompanied me on a little 3 mile hike out to cape alava on sunday. We had a nice camp there that night and made a fire, watched the sunset on the beach, hit the hay! The next morning we discussed what we all wanted to do and went against the plans!!! We decided to head north into the Ozette Indian reservation where there weren't really any marked campsites and no trails. But the beach would suffice and if we couldn't make it around a bluff we just hiked up into the forest a bit or used a rope that someone had tied to make a climb a little easier to do. Here are some photos of the trip and some things that we saw. I want to go again and maybe will do so sometime this summer if the weather stays good enough, long enough. reports reports reports, writing reports.

In a couple of weeks I'm heading out as far west as possible in the continental US! Cape Alava is the destination, right next to Lake Ozette in the Olympic National Park. I'm really excited to get out there and be in it all for a few dayS!!! Here are some photos of what it should look like, I really hope the weather is awesome but even if it rains or clouds or whateverrrrrrr I'm sure it'll be fantastic.

Brad, Chris, Danny, and I went to Anderson point recently and had a fire at the beach. it was great! and there was even a lightning storm to watch while we were down there. Alycia came to meet us with sister and DALTON and we all goofed at the beach. it was a nice night time place! Last night people came over for the fourth of this month and made a huge mess! It's mostly cleaned up now though, thanks to brad and kit. have fun with the photos! do you like my new skin tone?!

here are some photographs I've been taking. I thought I could share several of them with the masses because I feel like I don't put anything on here. So go wild! Tell me what you think of them. I don't think there is any chronology here, just random moments that I have in my computer, then I just edited them a smidge. This morning was great, I woke up with so much energy and got on my bike. I rode up to the grocery store, bought some fruit and things, stopped at the farmer's market and bought bread, came home and made french toast for everyone here! it was tasty and rewarding.

well things have been going around here. Alligators is in the process of recording a full-length album. In fact, we are trying (slowly but surely) to finish the vocals and add extra musical textures here at our house. It's going well but we need to stay focused!!

I do apologize for neglecting this journalistic outlet for some time. I think I have just mentally been elsewhere. I have been doing some travelling quite a lot these days and this weekend I'll be going up to Bellingham once again for an Alligators show. I've been riding my bicycle a lot these days. it feels very nice and now I really have something that I must be prepared for..... mt st. helens. I'm planning on riding up around the base of the volcano with my dad and then we'll coast down the other side at top speeds!!!! I want to get some kind of wind suit to wear (so i don't get cold, but it would also look "badass"). I think it's going to be something like 85 miles long, but that should be very fun fun fun. Yesterday I completed a painting, have a look here if you like. I don't have an idea of my intentions with the painting, just wanted to try something, I bought some paints and equipment yesterday and needed to figure out how to use them all. pERHAPS I'll paint another today or sometime soon, but I have some musical obligations to tend to. check it, yolooooooooo -tyle

Today was quite nice, it was Easter Sunday and I spent it waking up a little late and going to work at the bistro to serve all of two customers, one of whom is an employee and the other was her husband. Then I was picked up by my father and we went to have "supper" with a large gathering of family and friends. Later, after arriving home for some time, Brad, Danny, Alycia, Kit, Chris, and myself went up to olympic coffee for their sunday night open mic get-together. It wasn't much though, no one signed up at all tonight. Now we're back here and I'm next to brad; we're both traveling around on our computers and searching for something on the world wide web. out!

well here I am, sitting in the kitchen, everyone that's here is still asleep, I just had a piece of toast and am drinking green tea. I think I'll heat some more water now for a second brew))) Oh the tea kettle is making a squeak about something. better go check it out. and it's fine of course.
Well, last night Bradley came over and we all hanged out in the kitchen for quite some time typing on typewriters and laughing and goofing, then finally went to sleep after some music playing..... I rode a bike a lot yesterday, up the hills down the hill, around the bend, over the dead cats, through the trees, above the clouds, etc. ....

Today I think kit went to the mountains with some girlfriends and they are going to be skiing. sounds pretty fun, but I am here today so I should get on my bike again and go nuts! this is all sounds like nothing boring pointless schwag of the medieval dungeon spit ball ramshackle cave of a truthless wandering vase of empty. ok here are some unconnected photos that will please the eye for about 2 seconds. goodbye. tonight and today were spent working on things. the memory nearest to the front of my mind would be the playing of the music. that time when 'point in time' goes out the window and we all just synchronize and flow. sharing loves and sipping on berry juice - i just can't tell what type this is. Today, just like the last 3 or 4 days, is open wide, no clouds, no rain, just clear, blue sky with a view of the olympics and the cascades! I guess you have to walk out from our house just a bit to see the latter, but still, 2 ranges from one spot, that's pretty amazing. Yesterday I had school and could also see Mt. Rainier from bremerton. I've never really experienced that before. Geography was boggling my mind for a while.
Speaking of school, it's been going very well, I am enjoying my classes, can you believe it? You must, because I actually am. The music 'biz' is great, just great. not making any money whatsoever yet, but I'm having so much fun playing in a band again and performing at shows, practice is fun, we'll be recording some stuff soon. Kids on bikes is playing in Bremerton on saturday night for free. so excited. that's all I have to say.
Kit and I will be off to Tacoma for a bit today, we may end up driving home a bus / van for Alligators / Kids on bikes.

winter has been nice so far. alligators, the band i play bass in, has been doing very well and had a nice christmas performance in a mall!! it was wack, but fun nonetheless. christmas time was nice at my parents' house and we all got to hang out with lovely theodore for quite some time. enjoy the fooootooooss. make silly comments. aooooo, please excuse the middle finger, but it is just a great photo!!!! peace

Life has thrown crazy events at everyone recently. Music is going really well, that makes me so happy. Danny has gotten into upholstery and tomorrow night we shall crank out a debut music night. russell, christopher, bradley, and daniel with be playing sets of electronic, ambient, and looped music. it's going to be amazing! My friends Alison and Jeremy had a halloween party at their house last wednesday. It was a grand ol' time and everyone was looking crazy. Danny was an 'explorer adventurer that got shot' and I was a woman, sorry i don't have any photos of myself this time. Chris was raggedy Andy and kit was "an asshole." Great costume kit, didn't even have to dress up. Oh yes, Adam was a mystic of some kind. sweet hat adam! Samantha was dead, josh and danielle were a werewolf and little red riding hood respectively. I'm in Port Orchard, WA. and it's raining. Today is covered by a dark gray, plenty of rain, and chilling wind. I'm sitting at my kitchen table with males all around me eating teriyaki food and chattering about nonsense. I will go to my room, put on a sweater, and then we'll be playing music together. well, , , after a long flight I didn't sleep on, I finally went to sleep last night at about 1 am, and then woke at 6 30 this evening! that's too much sleep I'm pretty sure, but I know I needed it. I just hope now I can adjust to the time zone I'm in with speed and grace.

one two one one one one three, today some folks will be coming to Naoko`s apartment for a vegetarian sushi eat and good times talk. Last night was shinjuku night for Aki and myself and guess what we found? yet another belgian beer bar. I think I have a belgian beer drinking problem because it`s soooo good but so strong too. Oh well, I`m only in Japan so often right? yes. Oh yes, here is proof that I`m in tokyo, rubbing against its gritty inhabitant scum day in and day out. I am going to return to washington on monday, pretty nuts. see you all then and see you all later. Naoko just got back from work about 2 hours ago. I guess I can give you the info., , ,, It`s about 1 pm, Naoko got home at 11 am from working a 18 hour night shift. crazy! They have her working at the front desk of their apartment hotel thing from 4 pm yesterday until 10 this morning. Slave drivers. Today was a fun day. I hung around the apartment for awhile this morning when naoko was working hard in roppongi. Then I went to the grocery store to get some ganmo (special fried tofu) to make some salad for lunch. I talked with aki on the phone and met him around 4 pm to have an interview for a website he`s creating. It should be really exciting when he posts it on his web blog. He was with naoko and I for a while and then we parted ways as he went home and Naoko and I dined at a place called `yanya`. It was alright I suppose, the curry I ordered made my face sweat and it felt really good! These photos are kinda random, I haven`t been consistently taking photos because it`s tooooo comfortable to go somewhere with only myself and pants and shirt and shoes and wallet. freeeeeedommm!!!! enjoy. -tyler

Well it`s humid again today. the weather is definitely in a time of transition, but really I just wish it could stay cool and breezy like yesterday. Oh well. I managed to get back to a restaurant in a town called Kinshichou yesterday. It was `Its Vegetable` and it was really good taiwanese vegan food. Tonight I`m going to meet Aki and maybe Noriko also at an awesome belgian beer bar in Shibuya. It should be tasty, but before that I`m going to spend some time in Inokashira Park located in Kichijoji. Here are some snapshots of recent things. peace!

a sense of wonder. Naoko and I rode the train to Ito on Friday afternoon, spent the night at her parents` house and then the next day we went to visit her grandparents. party people, let me tell you! Then after a mega feast at the Ishii residence we went to bed and woke up so early to get to the music festival about 3 hours north. Well I just have a few days left here in port orchard and then I'll be heading off to Tokyo, Japan for another wonderful stay with naoko and her charms. I'm very happy to eat some real mushrooms again like enoki, shimeij, and good shiitakes. yes. Well I've been tired lately, what a surprise. I guess waking up at 5 30 for five days each week isn't something I can get used to. My friend Anthony came up from olympia a couple days ago and we worked on a music video for a kids on bikes song. I'm sure you'll be able to view it soon enough. it was really fun and I even went crazy and painted my face with pastels. We spent part of a day at Manchester state park and ate way too many delicious wild berries. mmmmm how good they were. Kit and I have finally finished our beer and now it sits in bottles for 2 more weeks. then it's tasting time!!!! I"m pretty excited about it, I just wish it didn't take so long, but hey that's just the way it is. Maybe some of you!!!!! will be able to try it someday. I'm going to be in japan next month, I'm totally ready to go right now. I am just anxious and ready to get out of this place for a while. peace. Today I got off from work and thought it would be best if I exercised a lot. so, I walked from my house in a big loop that took me about 2 hours and 6 miles or so. It was really nice actually. After I returned I met up with kit here and we decided to ride some bicycles up to the store and get some things. I got a nice flashlight and then we purchased some things at the grocery store. Here is what my room looks like now. I'm going hiking this weekend, that's why I decided to go on long walks and try and get myself ready for journeying long distances. We're actually leaving on sunday, so I'll be back on wednesday night? something like that. anyways, it's going to be really fun.... Well hello there, I'm awake now. I've been taking a nap almost everyday when I arrive home from work. waking up at 5 30 every morning for work is lame after a while and napping becomes a necessary part of my routine. Last night I woke up at about 9 30 pm and decided that I should make half of my hair lighter. this is what that looks like. Music is going greatly, kids on bikes even has practices with real friendly people these days too! I can't be more excited about that.
Oh yes, at the end of this month I'll be heading into the olympic mountains for some backpacking, I'll be gone for 4 days. Any suggestions as to what I should take? I'm quite aware of the essentials, tent, sleeping bag, water bottle, extra socks, bear thingy, etc. I"m looking for something interesting that I wouldn't normally think to bring into the mountains, ideas pour in!!! lovely, =tyler . . p.s. Hello. I'm sitting on the ground at my computer and I can see the silhouette of the wonderful Olympic Mountains on the horizon. Kit and I have been talking lately about going on a trip there soon. We really want to take a 20-30 mile hike and camp overnight and stuff like that. I got a backpack for hiking at the church rummage sale and as soon as I put it on I wanted to be on a trail hanging out with all the spirits. Hopefully we can each work out a nice 4-day chunk of time during which we won't work and can vamoooose. Oh yeah, I played some music at Kit's work last week and it was really strange. It's a restaurant and they were having some kind of blue moon beer promotion, so I just provided some background music from the upstairs section. Nobody watched; it was great. Today I walked downtown and had a greek breakfast gyro, then I watched the "reptile man" put on a show for a bunch of kids at the park. He was showing off all of his snakes and tortoises to the stupid kids. sorry but kids are stupid. I'm not saying that I don't like them, I love kids, I was a kid, I was stupid, but they are sooooo cliche and boring sometimes. It's just kinda funny to me. anyway, then I saw a dog with a bag of shit tied around it's collar while it's owner had tied the dog up to a tree while they went inside some shop or something. really funny stuff. I saw danny today and visited with him for a while. If you know what he is going through right now, please be very encouraging to him when you see his face next. He really needs positivity in his life. I must go, I must go. goodnight. love, tyler

I'm moved in to a new house in Port Orchard, WA. 98366. It's near the water and it's very comfortable, spacious, and sounds great! Our neighbor was actually excited to learn we're musicians and plan on playing music there. What a relief! I don't have much time to write as I'm on my way to gig harbor to pick up a pay check and then write a rent check and get it in the mail to our LAND GOD. today i recieved the good news from my new friend, andy garrett, that chris jones, kit arper, and myself will be moving into a house in port orchard, right on the beautiful sinclair inlet. it's great; we'll have a view of the olympic mountains and the naval shipyard and can probaby put a row boat into the water if we felt it right! I'm very happy to be moving into this house but i also think i need to lofor some things like bed, pillow, laundry detergent, soap, contact solution, some cups and bowls, etc. but i really won't care too much about it because I'll be playing music and looking out the big window in the living room. mmmmmmmm yes. Last evening brad and I cooked yet another delicious for our choice friends. in attendance were samantha, kit, jeremy, alison, danny, eric, chris, brad, and myself. oh russ too, yes, russ. we made some eggplant parmesan, pasta salad, and chris baked some bread. mmmmm oishikatta ne. -tyeryyly l -tyelr what?

we ended up on chris's family's back porch, sitting in patio furniture, barbequeing portobella mushrooms, and eating cheesy buns. it was a tasty evening. Today is a nice day here in olalla. The weather is great and i just reached my workweek's end. That feels quite nice after a rather busy time working lately. well these days are getting nicer on the outside, busier on the workside, and i'm tired from having to wake up early every morning. it's not too bad, i've learned to live like "older" people and make sure I'm in bed by about 1030 or 1100. Danny and I have been snooping around for house to rent. We've found a couple interesting ones but it's hard to just go for it i suppose. We need a place to play music and not worry about disturbing people. I hate having to think "oh it might be too loud". In a just world I wouldn't have to even give a damn because everything would be based around making music. Unfortunately for me that is not the case. We must abide by the pigs' rules. Tonight i made a pizza, bututttttt i forgot to photograph it i guess, so no photo, sorry. it was great though, just a classic margherita style pie. tomato basil, mozzarella and garlic. very tastytyty. here are some semi-random shots I took over the last couple weeks. Hello again. I apologize for the long span of time between this post and the last. I suppose that I've been busy but not for any good reasons. I've just been working 5 days a week and then chilling out at home making music on my computer. speaking of which, I'm typing and posting this blog on my "old" computer. I just bought a new sony laptop a couple weeks ago and I'm using it for recording and music beezzzwaxx. It wasn't the smoothest of transitions, however, Windows Vista makes everything a pain. Eventually i just put windows Xp on there also so I just use that for music. But it's exactly what I needed, power, speed and sleek beauty. Spring time is looking good around here, and it's staying light out well into the evening. I hope to get on with some shows already, but I am just so damn slow. Recently I acquired a couple of childrens' toys. One of which my friend bill and I took apart and circuit bent. Now it sounds so mean. here's some photos of the "musini" and wonderful "play a tune" the bells sound really amazing on it. Hello everyone. I"m still here, still sitting and walking and driving and cooking and eating and breathing. I've been working 5 days a week lately. It's great though, somehow I get pleasure out of working at a place like Kelly's restaurant. it's so simple, just give people things they want and be an actor. It's really fun sometimes and I just crack up laughing at things that are really amusing. Here is a video I made. I'm sick of my inferior Laptop "computer" it can't compute no thing. I need something with more brains, less cholesterol, and great vocal chords. this computer is fine for being a "personal computer" but I need something that is high-end music making machinery. Help me out if you know places that might build custom laptops, also you can just say, "get a mac, they're really good for media stuff." that's true I know, i just don't know what I want yet. Earlier this evening I was ready to punch this laptop as hard as possible. I think I hit something, the last time I got really mad like that was at computer games. This shouldn't be happening. Well, good day to you all in the land of screens and modems and wireless connections, etc. I've been messing around with my laptop set up this week. First, on the way back from Bellingham I stopped in Lakewood to purchase a MIDI keyboard. It will be used to control the sounds I've been making in Cubase, the music software program that I use. It works fine but I still have more to learn as far as making it do what I want. It's confusing how there are so many steps just to get one knob to do one thing. If I was a programmer I think I'd make sure you could always right click on something and have a menu drop down that gives you the entire list of options. Wouldn't that be nice? Yes, yes it would be. I did also make a trip to staples yesterday with my friend JR to look at random access memory. Well, not only did I look but I even purchased 512 mb of the stuff. After I installed it my computer was instantly speeding around everything and I was quite surprised. I guess that's what it is supposed to do, right? So, I'm getting closer to having a live music worthy laptop, I think that my soundcard isn't good enough though. Anyone have a really nice soundcard that you can give me? That would be gerat.t.t..t. Anyway, it's all coming together, whatever. um, This weekend the Lewis family spent time in Bellingham because Theodore was being baptizezzzzzzz and We all stayed with Andy and Sarah at their mansion. It was a nice time of eating, walking, seeing, and peeing. I will be working full timish at Kelly's cafe starting tomorrow, so I better wash my black pants. oooo, on Friday I was lucky enough to see Miho Hatori perform at the Crocodile cafe in seattle. Chris and I went there pretty late hoping to miss some of the other bands and I guess we did. IT was crazy though, the show wasn't over until about 1:45 or something like that. Well, change is a way of life. Surprise is a way of life. 'Up in the air' is MY way of life. Last Friday I finished working at the preschool around 5:30 and just had to tell them "sorry, but I am not coming back on monday. I'll be back to pick up my check on friday, but that's it." I couldn't stay in that weird factory childcare center anymore. Bad vibes all around. That doesn't mean that I'm jobless forever! I went down to Kelly's restaurant yesterday morning and talked to the owner, who'll most likely hire me after this Friday's test shift. Nothing glamorous, i'll be washing dishes, preparing food, and making coffee. But you know what? I won't have to pretend that I care about 16 kids pissing their pants and not respecting anything or anyone. Talk about bad seeds! I think that rich gig harbor parents are terrible people and only spawn bad selfish, un loved children. Here's to money! I've been writing and recording a lot of music lately, I am really itching to perform live but it's hard to imagine how I could do it with all the electronics pre-programmed and multiple layers of vocals and instruments, etc. I think I'll really start trying to do it so I can begin performing live. I need stereo pa, a mic, maybe two, some knobs, and a midi keyboard, and a piano? that would be rad. hook me up please! here's a picture

I am now a preschool teacher and it is more fun and excitement than I ever expected. Last Tuesday I began working for a place called 'kindercare' in Gig Harbor. I'm a full time employee and yet again I can pay taxes! yes!! It's definitely great for me though, I had a few debts ballooning and I also am pretty keen on the idea of purchasing a used, mid-80's, toyota wagon or a volvo or something cheap and manual. Anybody have anything you'd like to get rid of? prefferably in working order already of course. I was also thinking about riding a motorcycle but you don't have as many options in or on a motorcycle.
Music is going nicely, I just recorded another song on my laptop and put it on the KIDSONBIKES website. so please go listen and relax to the music. if you want to. Russ, Danny, and myself have been spending late nights recording track after track of sonic love. After we do some mixing on those songs I'm sure there will be a spot for people to listen. I'm pledging to myself that I'll try my best to keep this blog updated weekly. I know that doesn't seem so difficult to do, but i think that when I'm at home posting feels so forced, like I'm just grabbing anything to post about (just like the media!). I should be getting word about a job I applied for recently. They want me to come work with them and I would be able to act like a child and have naptime!!! can you guess what I might be doing?!

Well, Naoko has been around olalla for a week or so. We've had the lovely experience of no electricity for about one week as well. A tree fell on the house, greenhouse was destroyed, etc. Went to ellensburg, people brought us breakfast. I like living without any power, the fire becomes a stronghold in daily life. Fires are warm and comfortable. Now we have electricity and a tree. The lights are being put on it right now. Woody is calm. Mom is confused. Dad is untangling. Naoko is washing? something. I just want to keep making music with Danny and Russ right now. Perhaps later on tonight we'll be able to creatttteeeee something. Well, today I'll be going to Tokyo disneyland with naoko, aki, and noriko. The weather forecasts I've checked say that it's going to be showering a little bit, but who cares?! it's dddddiiiisssneyland! I hope it's exactly like the disneyland in california, that would just seem right to me. Something about japan having replicas everywhere, just makes me feel comfortable. ahhhaaahahahahsiehaieiaoefkada. Last night cafe leafcup had a farewell party for me and jake, who is also leaving this week. I had a fun time showing everyboday my "sushi" that I like to make. They also gave me many wonderful funny things and hopefully I'll make it back with some of them. I need to stretch my limbs out and then get on the road (tracks, actually) to the happiest place on the island. peacE!

today naoko and I traveled to hakone, a region near tokyo famous for 'getting away.' It was a rather peaceful area and I felt that it was similar to being in the cascades, at lower altitude of course. We managed to find an onsen and had a nice time bathing outdoors! Then we had some delicious soba from a local restaurant that was recommended by one of the onsen staff. photos

Today I went to the glorious hair-style competition in the gigantic Yokohama arena. It was a lot of fun, people are really serious about hair! I sat in a chair among hundreds of other hair models and had a final trim, then yuki styled it, and then I didn't pass!! yeayyy!!! Then Naoko and I just hung around Yokohama for a while and came back to Ofuna. Tomorrow I'll be working with Mino at the party space for the last time and I hope we can hang out a while afterwards. into the mountains

Today is Monday monday. This past weekend I spent my time in the mountains at yamanaka lake. It's right at the base of Mt. Fuji but naturally the fog and drizzly rain did not allow us a very nice view. Fuji san where were you? I could see your rocky waist but you never woke up to say good morning! This area of Japan feels so much like Washington and it was so cold! Quite amazing to get away from light pollution, air pollution, overpopulation, etc, in Tokyo and head of to a log cabin with funny people. I was a teacher for 4 or 5 students at the English Camp and we studied some pronunciation and grammar, then had a nice discussion about some current events in Japan. How about riding on a boat that looks like a giant swan? I did it. We also had the oppurtunity to go to an onsen and bathed, bathed, bathed, together, together, together (seperated by sex, of course). To bad I couldn't take my camera into the baths. This onsen was really cool because it had an outside pool filled with volcanic water (what's that?) so the air was really steamy and cold, but the bath was hot hot hot! so nice. felt like an animal in the wild!!! Today I"m meeting with yuki again for what should be the final cut and color, then tomorrow I have to put on some clothes they bought for me and go to Yokohama for the show! yeeeee. Today Naoko and I traveled to Ebisu and enjoyed a very cool photography museum. The museum included a lot of amateur japanese photographers and it was interesting to also see the work of artists that were arrested for their photos in the 30's and 40's. pretty tame stuff if you ask me. but I guess japan was different back then. Today after work one of the customers, toyo, gave me beef jerky from taiwan! I had to tell him I am vegetarian. It was very funny though. I'm keeping it of course. Last evening I was 'stranded' in shinjuku. I tried my best to get a late night train home or to my friends' apartment but all the train lines had retired for the night so I had to occupy my time in Shinjuku. what a strange place tokyo is at 3-4 in the morning. here are some of the photos I took while wandering the after hours streets. All the way from Ofuna I came, to greet the ocean apray with an open heart and open arms. Now I drink your coffee and sit in your cafe. Thank you for the relaxation. When I met you today you were shining and now your are dimming. I had no goals within you, however I somehow managed to accomplish everything. I was rather busy this weekend with working for mino, playing music with my friend shiori, walking to hidden places. Tiring but very enjoyable weekend. I was able to make some cold cash from Mino as well, so that of course didn't hurt me. These are some photos of things and people from around tokyo, the video is from yoyogi park where these guys gather every sunday to dance it up to 50's music. The band in the video wasn't that great, I just thought they sounded like a superficial joy division. The reason I recorded them was because the guitar player had a nice loop coming out of his amplifier. The photo that has some girls looking into a little hole in a room is nice. Inside that black box there were two guys dressed rather daintily dancing to bad techno. I don't know if you can see it but on the sign it says, "gay men's health crisis." bye!

today I wanted to capture common sights. also, this is the mascot for 'mister donut,' a donut shop. The scene of the station is very common, people ride the train everyday, just like everyday people brush their teeth and comb their hair! Last night I had a great time visiting Yuki, the girl that will be cutting and coloring my hair. She's really nice and we actually were able to communicate quite well considering my childlike Japanese ability. It turns out that by agreeing to be their model I'm going with them to Yokohama arena for a hair competition. I'll just have to sit around or stand or something while people babble about the cut for hours. Sounds great!!! ......? anyways, we decided to do something wacky, so I'll probably come home with a strange figure on my head. plastic extensions? who knows!!!!? Enjoy the photos. Recently I haven't been on this website to update the viewers with my life and goings on. I apologize for that as I have no good reason to have slacked, perhaps I was just feeling a bit lazy lately. I went to a picnic with the Leafcup Cafe group last weekend to Kasai Rinkai park near Tokyo Disneyland in Chiba. It was a lot of fun. Last night we also had a crazily packed party in the cafe where probably about 60 or more people showed up. Fun times. I wore a polka dot sweater and deemed myself "domino man." That was the extent of my costume. In other news I am going to be a hair model for a salon show in Jiyugaoka. I am very proud of all the hard work I put into getting this job. I just randomly decided to stop in Jiyugaoka for lunch or something (neither of which I got), but as soon as I stepped out of the train station some girls stopped me and asked me to model for a haircut in a couple of weeks. Of course I said yes because firstly I have lots of time to give away these days, secondly I'll need a haircut by then, and THIRDLEEEE because it's free! Maybe they can give me a perm or something very stylish. I can only dream. Today, Naoko's mother sent us a box of Mikan oranges. A very full large box of oranges!!! Lots of vitamin C and lots of juggling practice! I'm trying to record music tonight but it's a bit akward sitting on the floor with cats running around all the time. Oh well, gotta work hard for the money right? I had a strange dream last night in which I had returned to the US and was visiting my brother Danny in his new studio apartment in some strange part of Seattle that doesn't exist. I felt that I intensely missed Japan, when I woke up I tried to remember what it was I missed so much but for some reason I couldn't think of anything. It was a weird feeling, not longing for someone or something, just some strange absence I couldn't lay my fingers on. or toes.

Well I've been staying with my friends Aki and Noriko the last few days. I've had some commitments around Tokyo consecutively so I figured I may as well stay closer to that area. It was fun, our friend Yudai came down from Sapporo, Hokkaido and we went bowling one evening, watched a movie about Bobby Darin, relaxed and such. I then worked at the Leafcup cafe a couple days and yesterday, we went on picnic@@@!! So exciting. I felt like we were on a fieldtrip or something amazing like that. The Old man in the picture owns a fruit stand. I was buying fruit with Yudai and decided we should have our photo taken. Then he gave us both free mikan oranges. Nice guy. From what I know of him anyhow; always giving things of value to others, smiling, saying 'thank you.' etc. I know it's all topical stuff but I'm probably never going to see him again, so in my mind he is wonderful. what?!?!?!? I'm having contact lenses shipped to me from the states as well, hooray. only about 1 month left here? strange.

My musical brain itches! I've been playing guitar a lot these last few days, and so many ideas have been popping up, I need to play these ideas loud, in a nice place, with some good people. I'm pretty slow with the cubase recording program, so it's not so easy for me to just sit down at the computer and record music quickly. Plus, this apartment is tiny tiny and not so comfortable to set up a space to record in. Sitting on the floor isn't so bad though, I just don't have a proper stand to hold the microphone with. Maybe I'll buy one!? maybe. Last night was fun. Naoko, Aya, and myself made a funny dinner together and watched the movie 'hotel rwanda.' It was interesting, I think it was hard for Naoko or Aya to laugh for some time after watching the movie. I'll be working more at the cafe leafcup this week and next, and actually we're going on a 'staff picnic' to some really nice park by the ocean. alright! we can build employee morale. Anyway I'm off to purchase more tofu then I think I'll be meeting up with Atsushi to exchange languages.

I purchased buffalo daughter's latest album today. It's called, "euphorica" and it has some mean music recorded onto it. I guess it also serves some dvd functions and I have yet to view them, I'm sure it will be interesting. Speaking of Japanese music, I found out about a Takagi Masakatsu performance that will be going down on the 27th of this month in Harajuku. I'm really excited to see his visual element mixed with really interesting musical compositions. Today I met up with Mino and his friend Shiori in 'Naka Meguro' where we dined for dinner at a vegan restaurant called 'cafe 8.' It was GOa od. I had Eringi mushrooms with tofu in a curry sauce and liked to eat it and put it down my throat. enough blah blah blah I'm listening to my new cd I purchased today. and look at the photos? tyler

Here are some pictures of a beautiful day in Ofuna. The sky was intensely blue and the clouds had no threat of dumping liquid. It's starting to get really cool in the evening and it actually feels like a comfortable place now! It's really nice..... Today I'm going to Machida city to meet with a guy from the internet and we'll be exchanging languages; I'll be teaching him some more English skillzzzzz, and I'll learn some Japanese from him too. Then after that I may be heading down to Yokohama to attend a 'jam session' hosted by a group called "soil and pimp." I guess if you are a musician, any musician, you can join them on the stage for some time and play music with them, so I'm gonna do it. peacE!!!

Today I spend many hours just walking around. I had no commitments, so I figured I should at least get out of the apartment and get some excercise! My journey on foot took me all around Ofuna, visiting areas of the city I've not been to yet. So it was interesting when I would pop out at some intersection or park and think to myself, "oh, this place. I know this place." Then I recorded some music with my brand new mic cable! yeah! microphone cable!!!! It works great of course, and I hope that soon I'll be uploading some new music onto the internet for all to hear. Speaking of recording, I've been using a new program (new to me) called cubase, it's a lot more complex than n-track (what I used to have) but I'm getting the hang of it. Did you know that Leonard Cohen wrote novels!? I'm going to start reading "beautiful losers" after I finish "the narrow corner" by l......W. Somerset Maugham. heard of him? her?! I'm not really sure but it's a strange story so far about a doctor that lives in china and travels to some strange islands for operations. And he likes to be entertained by peoples' unique qualities. I don't know, Demian was much better. here are some photos I took today!? And tomorrow I'll be meeting with a guy named Atsushi near Ofuna to discuss possiblites of English Lessons. I need to buy a microphone cable. Of the two that I brought with me, neither one of them are functioning very well. I just plug them in and here "crackle crackle zipploy" and I can't really record anything musically and clearly like that! So tomorrow before my shift at the English cafe I think I'll head on over to Ochanomizu for some extreme musical instrument shopping. The town 'Ochanomizu' is really interesting and I haven't yet seen it this time in Japan. A crowded music shop is packed to the ceiling and front door with guitars, basses, violins, keyboards, african drums, everything you can imagine. And it's not just one store either, there are literally about 20 or so that have all the same offerings. Totally insane. So I'll be there tomorrow and then afterward I'm going back into the paid conversation world. Maybe we'll talk about alternative energy sources again! Or maybe whether mandatory foreign language classes have a proper place in the Japanese school system. I met a professional koto player last time, and she also studied surfing in Hawaii. After my first day working there I'm all the more excited to find out whatever these new faces are thinking! Last night I hung out with Noriko and Aki in there place, it was very fun funf . Today was pretty slow, just cooked some sweet potato, shiitake, tofu, bok choy stew. tasty tsasy! sado alright hope you are still out there! love, tylerrrrr

'erotica' is a sunglasses shop. makes very good sense doesn't it? Well last evening I went to the quirky "cafe leafcup" and worked for four hours, just chatting with people that came in and introducing newcomers to the group, trying to keep everyone involved. and they want me to come back! great! So I'll be earning some money (cash in hand of course, no paperwork for me) and keeping busy during the week. And next week I'll officially be starting to work with little Ken, the 2 year old that I have to chase around and talk to for a while each week. And next friday, I'm going to see Melt Banana play at the shibuya o-nest. Melt bananaa a a a a a jaksjda I'm drinking a 'real' americano right now. I brought Naoko some espresso beans from seattle and she has an espresso maker with caffe vita mugs to boot!!! it's so delicious compared to any coffee you can buy around here!

I've just finished reading Hermann Hesse's "demian." Probably one of the most inspiring novels I've ever read. WHAT IS JOY TIME? Well, here I am again in front of my computer in Japan, trying to think of what to tell everyone, how to explain 'what's been going on.' But putting that aside for now, I'll tell you what WILL be going on. Naoko is at work right now (10 pm) but she'll be home soon and we'll probably have some sweets together or something. she always needs the chocolate or puffy bread or something. funnyyyyyy. anyway, she has the day off tomorrow, so we'll be able to relax together for a while anyhow. Then I guess Naoko is going to a dinner party with some old friends of hers from Ito (her hometown). Later in the evening I'll be heading into Tokyo for a party at my friend Aki's new apartment. That's exactly why he's having a party in fact, he moved into a new apartment with Noriko!!! yeyayya. Should be funn. Then on Tuesday I have a meeting with some people I don't know. I got a call earlier this evening from one Kurumi, she's a mother of a 1 year old boy that she feels should grow up being familiar with English, so I'm going for an "interview" with her kid and I might end up meeting with them a couple times during the week to read stories to her boy and play some English games with him (sounds like I'm going to teach him cricket or rugby or something). I'm very excited to meet these people and give them my best so I can possibly be a help for them. And of course I would get paid, that would be wonderful. On Thursday I'll work at the Cafe Leafcup in tokyo and hopefully they will want me back as well. I'm continuing to post ads on various websites I find and hopefully the more posts I make, the more contacts about jobs I'll recieve. It can't work any other way, now can it!??! nope... Yesterday I met up with Maki around Makuhari, Chiba near the ocean. We ended up taking a walk to the beach and had a nice time hanging out together. Kazu left and is back in Seattle now, and Naoko is usually away so we were able to fight our lonelinesses together! teamwork!!! Today, I took a hike across town and visited the great statue of 'kannon.' I guess it was built in 1934, initially, but then the war prevented a quick construction so it was not finished until 1956 or so. It is definitely big and looks amazingly serene when you get up close to it. it's just concrete!! Well today is humid again, I thought for a couple days that summer might really be through with and we could all bask in the joys of wearing a jacket, not sweating, experiencing "nice breezes," etc. But I guess I've spoken too soon, it's still hot! What day is it... today is wednesday sept 20, I'm in our little ofuna apartment and being really lazy, I should get out of this place now!!! I'll be riding the train sooner or later up to harajuku. I'm not going there to gawk at the ridiculous fashions or buy clothing and such, I'm going to visit an art gallery space that is totally free and anybody can display work of any kind there. It should be enjoyable, I looked at their website today and It seems like a quality-attracting venue. Oh yeah, yesterday I gave in to many suggestions and Naoko helped me to get a ketai (a.k.a. cellphone). It's ok, it's prepaid so I just have to use my minutes if I need to call someone, but most of the time I'll just need it to recieve calls. Other than that I can always use a pay phone, it's cheap. Well I gotta get going, hopefully my battery charger from kazu will arrive sooner than later, then I can continue photo taking and video making. to kyoto, shikoku, and back to tokyo

I have been on a 'trip' now in Japan. It was lots of fun and sure, the shinkansen is fast, but its not worth as much as they make you pay for it. But it did move Kazuomi and I from okayama to tokyo in about 4 hours. that's like going from Seattle, WA to San Francisco, CA in 4 hours! astounding. Upon our arrival in Kyoto we were lured by a taxi driver who wanted to take us to maybe 5 or 6 'shriney' places for a lot less than these other tour services. Anyhow we broke free from his bargaining and found the best way to see a lot of Kyoto was to simply purchase an all-day bus pass for only 500 yen! about $4.50 american. we found our way to the infamous golden temple, walked through the grounds of a huge shogun castle, and went up into the mountains to see a temple with an amazing view of all that is kyoto, and I got to ring the bell and bow!!! yeayyeaeae tourist fun!!! Later in the night we found a nice Izakaya (traditional japanese bar/cafe) and sampled many mushroom and seaweed dishes. We became soooo tired that it was time to find shelter for the evening. Before Kazu and I even left, we had the great idea of staying in a "love" hotel because they are cheaper than other hotels, and it would be really cheesy and funny too!!! BUT, the conservative Japanese idealogy took over and prevented us from renting a room! I was shocked that this old lady told us, "we can't allow to men to stay together." Later we found out that 2 girls would be just fine, but not guys. ridiculous! So we went to the nearest business hotel and shared a room for a little more money. At least we got a good night sleep and a place to take a shower. -------- The next morning we were on the train again to see the island of Shikoku and the region of Kagawa, Japan. This is were Kazu grew to know the world... and eat Udon. Udon is delicious. It is the pasta of japan and I think much much tastier. Born in Kagawa, Udon is just noodles made from flour, water, and sea salt, but the texture and taste are amazing!!! I had the honor of meeting Kazu's family and they were wonderfully amusing. Then one day we went to a temple way way way wya up on a hill that had 1300 or more steps to get there. it was quite a workout!! enjoy the pictures, the movie, and take care of yourselves. love love love, tyler

today = = = up really early to meet kazuomi at the tokyo station, then we ride the infamous japanese 'bullet train' to the beautiful city of Kyoto. I'm going to eat a vegetable that originates in kyoto called kyo-yasai. CRAZY!!!!! from Kyoto, Kazu will take me into the island of shikoku, where he was farmed! yesterday I travelled to Odaiba, a man-made island in the harbor of tokyo, with friends maki and kazu. we "chilled" on the beach and walked around the gigantic futuristic blocks for a spell and then headed to Mino's place of work for some coffee. Then today, Naoko had a day off from work1!!! We went to yokohama's chinatown and had very expensive coffee nearby. coffee in japan, not a good idea. Today I'll post these photos for viewing pleasure! I had a most amazing experience today traveling one station over to kamakura. I basically got to see a part of japan stuck in the 70's full of sweeeet coffee shops (kissaten). This one was called Jean Clielle or some French name, the lady in the picture spoke the english she learned in high school to me, we had a nice conversation. The coffee maker is "dutch" style. "I don't know why it 's dutch style!," she said. Wonderful day.Tomorrow I have a "job" with Mino being a server person at a wedding party he is organizing. Should be good! =tyler

Good evening morning, something good. I just got up about 30 min. ago and in japan it's 9 am in the morning. Yesterday I had an extremely casual "interview" if you can even call it that. I think of it more as an informative talk I had with Steve, the manager type at this english cafe called "leafcup." However, good did come of it, for I am headed back there next week for a day of actually trying out the chatting host role. Should be very exciting! yeahhahahhahaha TALKING IS SOOOO EXCITING!!?!?!? I must say it was nice to speak my native tongue at a normal speed and not worry about my word choice while I am conversing with someone as I normally do these days. Anyway, this place seems great and I hope to make some money from it. PEACEEEEEEEE video!?!?!!?

I met up with mino in shibuya yesterday!!! It was really nice to hang out with him for a while and we both had our haircut by his friend Yone! Anyways, good news from mino, I can work with him when he organizes these parties at Las Chicas (a restaurant he works at) and make about 70 or 80 dollars on the weekends, schedule permitting of course. But that will be nice to have an infrequent money making scheme!!!!! Also, I'm heading into Iidabashi today intending to speak with someone in a cafe there about working for them. it's tuesday here. getting hot again, I spoke too soon when I thought the weather was much cooler than last year. But it's not so bad, I'll just get used to it again. Yesterday morning naoko gave me a nice haircut and it feels really good!!!! Everyone should get their haircut with thinning scissors. We met with Touji a couple days ago and dined at a fabulous okonomiyaki restaurant in yokohama. it was tasty! Yesterday, Monday, was quite interesting as Naoko and I jumped into the electronic city of Akihabara. It was nuts! so many tiny random accessories and wires and lights and cameras and everything you could imagine there. Some parts of the town had really tiny hallways between stores with tiny tiny booths selling their wholesale transformers, "x-ray" cameras, security systems, illegal stuff, etc. some places were so nerdy it was awesome! anyway, I found a canon that I liked and was much cheaper than in the states. With a charger I bought a canon a530 for 175 dollars. Mom, isn't that the camera you have now? I'm not sure but I know it's very similar. After the tiring shopping, we met aki in shinjuku with his friends kenji and kaori. We talked a lot about where I should look for work and they just thought I should be a model. I also recieved a business card from some dude who overheard me talking with them about modelling and such so he said, check these people out they might be able to help you. So I'm so far just getting some information about who I can talk to and where I can go. But today I'm soooooo tired!!!! jet lag haS LONG term effects apparently, and I feel like going to sleep at 11 am. anyway, I'm going to meet mino tonight and talk with he and his boss at "las chicas" the international restaurant that he works at. should be interesting! byelakelaulewuit

the plane didn't crash this time

here I am alive and well in kamakura, japan. about 45 min south of tokyo in the oceanside kanagawa prefecture. Kazu and I had an extremely tiring adventure last night. It involved leaving the airpot after meeting maki there, then going to her apartment so kazu could drop off some stuff, then we took an interesting route and finally met naoko in shinagawa, then she and I headed here on the train. too much train for one day!!!!! especially after sitting on the plane for 9 hours, but I'm happy to be here finally so I suppose I shan't complain any longer! Touji is over here right now and it's nice to see him and have broken conversations. Naoko is a genius and helped me acclimate my laptop in order to connect to the internet here at her apartment, so as soon as I can find the right digital camera I'll be posting plenty of photos along with these rambles. today we actually just took a look around at some cameras and they seem to be quite affordable and great! The only problem is that I need to find a mastercard-friendly international ATM so I can withdraw some yen from my bank account. but I have just been informed that maybe the camera shop will take my card as a credit card, anyways, before long I'll take photos non-stop possibly. thanks
